How to Join
Incoming first-year students may join the Pickaxe Pioneers by filling out the LLC application in their Housing Application. This is a great way for first-generation students to find the support they need and begin their transition into university life.
Activities and Expectations
The Pickaxe Pioneers Living and Learning Community creates a welcoming space for first-generation students to connect, share ideas, and feel supported. It’s designed to help you thrive and reach your full potential.
What to expect as a member of the Pickaxe Pioneers:
- Career Fair Prep and Walk-throughs
- Study Tables and Connections with the Student Success Office
- Service-Learning Activities
- Learning Style and Time Management Workshops
Expectations for students in this community:
- Attend regular LLC meetings
- Get involved with community events and projects
- 1:1 touch points with faculty and staff
Hall Features
Where You'll Live
Students who join the Pickaxe Pioneers will live in Thomas Jefferson North Tower.
Thomas Jefferson rooms offer:
- One extra-long twin bed per student
- One dresser, desk, chair, and bookshelf per student
- Two open closets for North Tower, one large open closet for South Tower
- Mini fridge located in each room
- Internet access
