What You Should Bring to Campus

All standard double rooms have two beds, two desks, two dressers, and a refrigerator. Suites will have a variety of furniture additions. What students bring with them will determine how "at home" they feel in the residence halls. We recommend that roommates talk with each other about what they are planning to bring to school. This helps to avoid duplicating items. To assist you with this, in July we will send you the name, address and home telephone number of your roommate.

What You Can Bring:

Lofts - Some students like to build lofts in their rooms to generate a little more space. However, it is necessary that the lofts be free-standing and that the students understand that any damages or injuries caused by the loft will be left to the responsibility of the student.

Homemade lofts are not allowed in the Residential College. Loft kits are available for check-out from the Residential College Front Desk for lofting Residential College beds.

Other Furniture and Posters - You are welcome to bring anything to make your stay more enjoyable. We only ask the you do not stick anything into the wall, damage any current property, and do not remove any university items from the room.

What You Cannot Bring:

Weapons - This is rather self explanatory. The devices not allowed in the Residence Halls include:

  • Knives with blades longer than 4 inches
  • Guns, whether they are for show, hunting, collection, or paint balls
  • Sling Shots
  • Bows and Arrows
  • Explosives, including fire works and any incendiary devices

Water Beds - As comfortable as they may be, water beds are not allowed in student rooms. The rooms are not designed to handle the weight and there are no water sources available for filling and draining.

Pets - Only fish are allowed in the residences. Unfortunately, terrariums are not allowed in the residence halls.

Cooking Devices - Cooking items that do not have an enclosed heating element are not allowed in the residence halls. See the various questions sections for more information.
